Religion

Saw this sign on the big island last week. This guy is the Cannabis Sacrament Minister...sounds official. I have lots of questions about this religion, and not all are answered on its website. Who ordained him as Cannabis Sacrament Minister? Why haven't I already heard about the Christ-Cannabis connection? And the big question...why don't more pot smokers join this ministry? Their claim is that you can smoke marijuana legally for religious purposes. Having never touched the stuff, my education in the subject is limited to Cheech & Chong movies and Dr. Dre's album "The Chronic". So I look to others for the answers...best I can come up with is that one who smokes pot really doesn't care about the legality. Although they'd like for it to become legal, they'll do it anyway and don't need the religion to justify. Thoughts?

I'd say that's accurate. Most pot smokers aren't going to let the law get in their way, though they'd prefer it be legal. I think, though, the fact that pot is illegal keeps many people from trying it. Though I believe most of the people whom the law deters would not turn into regulars. I could be wrong about that one, though.

i'm not sure if it's that big of a deterrent. how well did prohibition work for alcohol?

i'm all for legalization...will destroy, or at least the criminal element will become legitimized in the form of a corporation.

i doubt it would make us a nation of potheads...not even sure i'd smoke it if it was legal.

I agree with the prohibition comment, althought there are definitely people who will refrain from it as a result of it being illegal. Still, from the perspective of simple economics, you only make significant reduction in drug supply if you reduce the drug demand. Legalizing pot would reduce the criminal element and allow it to be more regulated. The government would be generating a great deal of tax revenue, etc.

seems like the government would want that revenue. i firmly believe in the conspiracy that big tobacco is holding back legalization.

on an unrelated note, did you notice the address? "Kingdom of Hawaii"...these guys must be members of one of the many Hawaiian secessionist movements.

No, but it doesn't surprise me.
